Beautiful... {fashion}

Time for Round 2 of the Beautiful... series!
Okay, I admit that I am a total fashion junkie. I simply *must* sneek a peek at the newest Teen Vogue at the supermarket. I am in the process of building a bulletin board that will be filled with snips from fashion magazines. I am kind of obsessive about getting dressed in the morning.

My personal style is a cross between modern, vintage, preppy, and bohemian. I know. I'm a paradox. But seriously: I'll wear (as you'll see) an Abercrombie tank top and Delia's jeans, then stick in a scarf from 1960.

But what's your personal style? Don't get sucked into the "style" of a particular brand, or copy someone else's. That has NO individuality. The following video will walk you through how to make your style special.

And yes, my hair is wet and my makeup sloppy in the following video.
The random chicken noises are normal, trust me... they're really loud. They're not dying or anything.

How To Find Your Style

Here's a few pictures that my dear friend Sammy took of me in various outfits. You can see how even your defined personal style should be versatile, too.
(And yes, I have a LOT of Abercrombie stuff. What can I say? It fits me well and there's an outlet right by my house...)

Vintage Glamour
Tank top: Abercrombie and Fitch.   Cami: Abercrombie and Fitch.   Jeans: Abercrombie and Fitch. (I know, I know...)  Flip-flops: Aeropostale.  Purse: ???? {found at yard sale} Bracelets: homemade, Venice glass shop, & yard sale find.

Paparazzi
Shirt: Delia's.   Skirt: Forever 21.   Necklaces: vintage finds.   Shoes: Converse One-Star.   Hair band: Forever 21.

Girl Next Door
Cami: Abercrombie and Fitch.   Shirt: Abercrombie and Fitch.   Skirt: Forever 21.   Shoes: Converse One-Star.  Bracelets: vintage finds.

City Girl
Shirt: Abercrombie and Fitch.   Jacket: Abercrombie and Fitch.   Jeans: Delia's.   Shoes: Converse One-Star.  Hair Band: Forever 21.

Farmgirl Chic
Tank top: Abercrombie and Fitch.    Jeans: Delia's.   Shirt: American Eagle.   Chicken: her name is Phoebe. She is the ultimate accessory.

Thanks Sammy! You are an amazing friend for putting up with all that.
{yeah... ignore my creepy expression, we were goofing off. Well, I was, anyway. Sammy just smiled.}
{also, I am wearing no makeup. Gack. Sorry if I break your screen.}

PS: Did you see the Taylor Swift video for "Mine" yet? Did you see me? *squeal* More when I return...

  4. Great outfits Olive Tree! I kind of have a more casual style. I wear Aeropostle, and I have gotten some jeans at a store called Pac Sun. I am probably going to start wearing Delias too. As you can see, I wear a bunch of different brands of clothes. :)

I haven't seen the music video yet! I am going to check it out! I hope you keep continuing with the Beautiful posts! I like them!

  10. OMG, I agree fashion/style is awesome. My style is whimsical/vintage/urban/boho (if that's even possible), but I try not to put a label on it. I just took some really good pictures of my outfits, but when I posted them, they didn't show up. Well, I just hot a new computer, so maybe I can try again. I don't like Seventeen for fashion (it's quite consumerist), but I do like to read it occaisionally. Hey, check out Tavi's blog... it's more of a style blog than a fashion blog:

  14. OMG!! Amazing style of clothes!!! AHHH!!! You have such great fashion skills! I'm going to go to Abercrombie and Fitch right now!! ;) Only kidding. I already go there. I also go to Aeropostale, Ameican Eagle, and Hollister, but A&F is my favorite. :) (Abercrombie and Fitch) You are so talented Olive Tree, it is unbelievable! Your video was very helpful! I will have the most fashion in school this year! ;) Oh yes, and when you make a tutorial on bow-and-arrow making, can you show us how to hold, aim, and fire the arrows too? That would be helpful :)

  17. Wonderful styles! And I'm about to check out "Mine" right now.

Oh, I'm about to go to this store called "Justice" soon and HOPEFULLY I'll be able to find something I like. A lot of the times I have trouble though. Now that I'm almost a teen I want to wear more... sophisticated clothing? I guess you could say that. And I really, really, really need to go shoe shopping for some NICE shoes that I can wear to my friend's dance recitals and all of that and some more modern clothing.

  20. Hi Olive Tree!
Great pictures...I really liked the City Girl and Farm Girl ones, they were awesome (especially the chicken! LOL). I loved the Paparazzi, but the skirt was a little too short for me, as I don't like to go any higher than just above the knee. Nice camera you're holding there too. I LOVE the scarf you have in the vintage look. I love scarves, and if I could I would have a whole cupboard full of them!! I have a range of styles I like e.g. sophisticated, boho and vintage and I love farm/casual too. I like to vary my styles!! :-)
Keep up the good work Honey!
    God bless you.

  21. Olive Tree you are so pretty! The video was helpful, and I'm glad I get to go back-to-school shopping next week when my mom gets back.

When you get back from your trip a link would be helpful, I've been looking for a couple minutes and haven't found it...

  26. 1 Peter 3:3-5
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves.

    1 Timothy 2:9
Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works. Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness.

    Matthew 6:31
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

  28. Re: the video... ugh, I can't find it either! I'm typing from a random wifi at the moment so I don't know how long it will last, but I'll try to find it when I return on Wednesday.

To "A Friend"... Your point is made. I'm leaving up your comment because I don't want to cut out anyone's freedom of speech, but in my opinion you can be Christian but still express yourself with apparel. Just my 2¢... if you don't agree, I can respect that, but please don't try to convert me to your personal beliefs or anything. I am what I am.

  29. I just wanted to chime in and say I think the type of clothing we choose is very important, and I honestly don't see anything wrong with "developing your own style". In fact, I find it important, because while God looks at the heart, man looks at outward appearance. However, keeping the verses that A Friend quoted in mind, I believe that the real, true expression of one's self is in the heart, which is what God looks at. What's in our heart will show on the outside, so you have to keep your heart completely open to God's will.
God has also led me to dress modestly, but as I've found out the "rules" of modesty vary from person to person. Therebelution.com/modestysurvey has really helped me in this area, as well as personal conviction from the Lord (I believe he calls different people to do different things; like some women won't wear pants, others will etc.) So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that as girls, what's our motivation to dress the way we do? Follow the crowd? Flaunt what you've got? Or to honor God, and to follow his will? The latter is VERY hard, but it's well worth it. :) I'm sorry I've rambled so, and if this doesn't make any sense or you don't want to publish this I understand. :)

  32. To A Friend:
I don't really think it should matter what you wear, thats your choice. To me, it only counts if you are nice on the inside.

  33. Hi Olive Tree, i just found your blog via Melody over at Vividry.

Just wanna say that i absolutely LOOOOOOOOOOVE your fashion styles and i REALLY like your blog!! I definitely liked ALL of your styles. i think my favorites were Vintage Glamor and Girl Next Door.

as a response to the "A Friend", i'd like to say that i believe that God made us beautiful and feminine, and i like to express that beauty as best i can. after all, we were made in His image, to reflect His beauty. why not be beautiful then?

i'm DEFINITELY not saying to be immodest, i believe that young ladies need to be modest. but, i think we can be modest AND beautiful at the same time.

I respect, you, ("A Friend"), though, for wanting to follow God and do what the Bible says.

but anyways i think that Olive Tree does a great job at being cute AND modest, and i love it! =)

    rock on, lady!!

  35. Hey Olive Tree, I know no one seems to be finding the video, and I saw online that some people think it's coming out on August 23rd instead. I'm not trying to say you're wrong at all. Maybe it was supposed to come out today, but I checked online and some people say the 23rd. Just wanted to get that out there. :)

    Peace,
    [Laurea]

  36. Love the outfits, Olive Tree! I would definitely wear the Vintage Glamour look to school, but too bad they don't allow tank tops where I go, we have to have something to cover our shoulders. But who knows, maybe I'll find something close to that look because it's very cute! :)

All of your outfits are amazing, and I'm loving the Paparazzi one. ;)

They're all pretty much laid back, cute, and original. I'm visiting Forever 21 and Abercrombie & Fitch over the weekend, which I'm *super* stoked about!

Like others said, no luck with finding the "Mine" video. Hopefully it'll be up soon somewhere.

    Hugs & Blessings,
    Jessica Nicole

  41. You're pretty even without makeup so stop apologizing lol! I like this series. It was so fun to see the different outfits you did. You always looks so well put together. I can tell you put effort into your fashion instead of just throwing on what you see first that sort of matches (like me cough cough). Thanks again!!
