The Contented Soul

It's rare to have a complete and utter sense of content. In fact, in my opinion it's pretty much impossible. You could be the happiest person in the world, but you can never be completely content... your shoe might pinch your toe or you might step in dog poo while walking down the Yellow Brick Road.

So a completely contented soul is pretty hard to achieve. But I think that right now I'm pretty close.

I'm not euphoric. I'm not overly happy. I'm not excited or even anticipating some great event. But I'm content.

What is contentedness, anyway? The dictionary tells me the following:

content |kənˈtent|adjective
"in a state of peaceful happiness ; satisfied with a certain level of achievement, good fortune, etc., and not wishing for more"

That pretty much sums it up, I think. Right now, I'm totally psyched with life. Even though my foot is asleep and my family is having major crises all over the place*. Even though all that is happening, I have this odd sense of calm and happiness.

I'm pretty confused... but I'm not about to question it.

I know this song's lyrics are pretty much the opposite of contentedness, but it has a soothing beat and melody. And it's stuck in my head. So listen up! (Don't worry, it's the clean version.)


*Please pray for my family. My dad has hurt his back badly and is home from work. My mom is in Florida playing nurse to my great-grandmother while her husband is having surgery in the hospital. My grandmother has been living with her boyfriend for several years, and he just proposed to her on Monday... but he's being treated for cancer at the moment and we don't know how bad it is yet.

PS: It is a few hours later and I am definitely *not* content right now! I added money into my iTunes account, and that was fine, but now when I try to purchase a song, it says "We could not complete your iTunes store request. The requested resource was not found. There is an error with the iTunes store. Please try again later."
Ack! Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?
Help! I need my music!

  6. My grandmother boy friend just died from cancer about 6 months ago. He was a great guy and my grandmother loved him they never got married. My grandmother realy misses him and his birthday was a few days a go so he has been in her thoughs.I will pray for you and you family. I dont know how to fix it but maby you could get some suppor from them because i dont know.

    Yeah I get that sometimes too, but I always have to remember that we have to be content in every situation. This verse always helps me to be content not only in the best of circumstances but in the worst too. Paul found the real secret, and we should as well. We always look to ourselves and material things to be content, but only God can give us the 'peace that surpasses all understanding'.

    Php 4:11-13 (NIV)"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength."

  11. I'll be praying for your family also! And that Itunes thingy happened to me once also. I waited till the next day. It worked. Sometimes it's just an internet connection that's ONLY effecting itunes.

  18. Aw Olive Tree I'm sorry, and I will be praying for your family. It's never fun to have someone you love in so much pain. I love that song, but it's starting to get annoying because I've heard it too much. That really sucks how your iTunes isn't working! Hope that gets fixed soon! :)
