It wasn't a blizzard... it was the sort of snowstorm where everything is muffled. The sort where you have to listen really hard, but you can hear snow falling. That is why I love January.

And then everything was still yesterday, too. My father and I took a walk in the moonlight last night; it was -10ºF, but still amazingly beautiful.
These following photos don't look like much, but my only light source was the moon (not even a full moon either). They aren't blurry, just unfocused... since I couldn't see clearly enough to focus them correctly. Still beautiful, though; the unfocus adds something I think.
What looks like sunrise is a trick: it was actually 10:30 at night. The warm glow is actually lume (light pollution)

Here's two backgrounds I made with photos from Friday as well. I love having a calendar on my desktop, and since there's only nine days left of January I jumped ahead to dear February. Enjoy. :)

I love the pictures Olivia!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! It feels like an empty January to me, disconnected and surreal and alien.
ReplyDeletewow! very beautiful pictures, Olivia! :)

Go light pollution! I'll bet L.L. Bean gave off half of that light.
ReplyDeleteYou take so great photos, Olivia!! I especially like the sunset picture.
ReplyDeleteThe portion about January that you wrote is so beautiful. I can't stress enough how much I like your writing, it's absolutely beautiful!
Have a great day,
Maya'lee
I love the icicle photos especially - and that last fiery sunset one is so cool!
ReplyDeleteThose photos are breathtaking. Very, very pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay girl, totally not fair that you have such interesting birds where you live. All that we seem to have are the ugly brown birds that chirp loud and annoying. And the times where we spot the pretty ones (and trust me, it doesn't happen often!) we are too busy awing to take pictures. lol!
ReplyDeleteTotally lovin' that isicle (sp?) picture. Sadly, we haven't gotten many of those this winter.

Those are beautiful photos! & I took the love background. ^.^
ReplyDeleteJust a quick question...what programme did you use to make the calendars?? I'd love to know!
ReplyDelete~Maya'lee
Maya'lee: I use Photoshop for everything. :)
ReplyDeleteThose are some beautiful pictures! Wow, those icicles are amazing and that's a ton of snow! I don't think I've ever seen that much snow. The most we've ever gotten was seven inches {and that's rare! hehe}
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know that your blog makes me smile every time I see you have a new post. I love reading everything that you write and learning from your photography. Thank you for keeping this blog going.

Wow those pictures are incredible!! We still haven't had enough snow here to get any really good snow pictures. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea on the backgrounds. I might have to see if I can do that with some of my pictures.
do you use Picnik? Gimp? Fotoshop?what do you use? I would love to know.. :)

Snow is my favorite because it's just so. quiet. I feel so peaceful when I look at it and take pics of it...
ReplyDeleteGreat photos as always!

Wow wow wow!!!! your lucky you get snow :/
ReplyDeleteL.O.V.E the pictures. Neat stuff. And I love the passage of writing from your short stories.
ReplyDeleteGood Job:-)
Oh, so lovely! I can never manage to get very good snow photos- my hands get cold long before my spirit does.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the Blizzard quote! You are a fantastic writer- I can see the picture in my mind as I read the words. I was just about to pull up Google and look up Blizzard so I could find out more about the quote...and then I read what's below. Don't worry, I won't steal it- but I will read it again and again to myself as I traipse in the snow. Last night we got six inches of snow, and I will not regret going out in only a sweatshirt and jeans to listen to the snow fall. It is most certainly the best sound of January, and the one that the most people miss.
I'm sorry this is such a long comment, Olivia- I hope you don't mind! :)
