dandelion dust (guest post - Ara)

"I was blue, just as blue as I could be
Ev'ry day was a cloudy day for me
Then good luck came a-knocking at my door
Skies were gray but they're not gray anymore
Did you ever think about how insignificant this tiny world is?
Did you ever realize how fast life slips away?

Planet Earth, obscure among the billions upon trillions of stars in the universe.
It's just one sparkling speck in a field of blue-black velvet.
Blue skies
Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see
It's a jewel teeming with life, iridescent as it dances in the technicolor phase.
A sphere ever-turning, like an apple whirling silently in space.

So many people forget how small Earth actually is.
We forget & get caught up in the mess we call Life.
Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, My! how they fly
We forget how beautiful those million stars and galaxies are.
We forget to slow down, to stop & look through someone else's eyes.
We forget what it means to dream.

We forget what it feels like to be wonderstruck.
We forget to taste the rain.
We forget how tiny our planet is.
Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on
We forget how small our problems are in the grand scheme of things.
We forget because to us this world is so big and we're so small.
We get going so fast, we think the world is colorless.

So small, so big. What a puzzle.
So many things happen. It rains, it snows.
The sun shines, the moon sets.
Love starts. Love ends.
I should care if the wind blows east or west
I should fret if the worst looks like the best
I should mind if they say it can't be true
I should smile, that's exactly what I do."
-Blue Skies by Irving Berlin
The universe is so big.
And yet I still find myself making wishes on dandelions.
They're such tiny, silent wishes trapped to the wind.
Even smaller when I look up at a blue sky
and think about all the stars I can't see.
About the stars I'll never see.

 Then I just smile.
I may be so small in this world.
But that doesn't mean I have to dream so small.

It means I need to dream bigger then the world I live in.
It means dreams can come true.
Wishes can't be stopped by the atmosphere.
Dreams are more then dandelion dust.

Someday I'll just be an echo in time.
Someday my wishes won't matter.
Someday I'll find there was a reason for the pain.
Someday I'll find there's only one way to fall.
Someday I'll forget to smile.
Someday I'll learn to fly.
Someday I'll let it go.
Someday.

But someday is too far away.
And today the world is spinning my way.

"My name is Ara & I am nobody in particular. At least, nobody worth mentioning much. I'm just an ordinary girl living in the extraordinary world of her own imagination. To define me completely, I would have to say that I'm shy and I write. And in the ups and downs of my life, I have learned two things:
life is sweet and I like being the shy girl."

  4. That as so beautiful Ara! I'm so glad to see you guest-posted on Horsefeathers.

Interesting things to ponder on.... Sometimes I look outside on a clear beautiful day, and I just feel insignificant, surrounded by the great beauty. It really puts things into perspective!
