FASHION // flapper

So I made a flapper dress.

Used:
2 yards black polyester-rayon (dress was bias cut)
6.25 yards black curtain fringe
metallic gold and silver thread

I didn't use a pattern, because I was working from my own design. (below)

I was going to cover the entire thing in fringe, but it was SO expensive I ended up doing only four rows on the chevron tilt and doing embroidery on the top.

I really love the back; it's quite deep.

So yeah, I wore it to school today. Fun fun.

  19. @vickii: My inspiration was basically being bored in math class. Not only are flappers in style right now, we're also studying the 20s in history, and I'm reading Coco Chanel's biography. So sort of just was on my mind!

  20. Wow! This was neat, Olivia. I just finished reading a novel all about the flappers style (i.e., the 20's), so it was fun to see someone who was so creative and made something like this. =)

    Cool!

  21. I love the dress, and I can't believe you made it! You should consider selling some of the things you make on Etsy if you want some extra money. :)

  23. Gosh, your brave.
    And talented.
And possibly have a perfect back.
Mine is totally scared, (I think we can all guess from what) And I seriously covet someone who have flawless shoulders/neck/back/whatever.
What were some of the reactions you got from people at school? I laugh thinking about unsuspecting people. :) Hah. <3

  24. Wow. You're really good at this fashion stuff. :)

So, I was wondering... Did you hand sew that dress or did you use a sewing machine?

  25. Have you ever considered designing clothes for a living? You'd get somewhere, I do believe. I'd certainly be a customer. Plus your name is perfect for that, ya know, Alexandria wang, Olivia Collins... Seriously, if you haven't already considered it, you should.
Any more amazing originals coming our way soon? I'm itching to see more of your designs!
