So I was procrastinating and making a TARDIS house for my David
Tennant Sim and I heard this clunk on our living room window... I saved
the game and went outside and there was a BIRD sitting on our porch.
Just chilling out.
With a concussion.
So, worried, I picked him up and waited until his momentary stun faded... which ended up being closer to 15 minutes...
I'd
never seen a songbird like him before (which is unusual because 99% of
my time is spent staring at things with feathers)... turns out he's an
Ovenbird. Ovenbirds are apparently great at making poor choices because
they make their nests on the ground. Which means that somewhere in my yard/woods/neighborhood, there's a nest. On the ground. Why.
So. Yeah. That was on Sunday... the rest of my life was not nearly so interesting.

VIDEO // two videos and that is all
Okay, chocolate chip cookie lovers, look inside your cupboard for your chocolate chips if you've been caught in the same heatwave I have. Ours... their consistency resembled toothpaste and thus they had to be squeezed out of the package in a way very similar to toothpaste. (Irony?)
Oh, and there were cool sunflares.
My video quality isn't great because I only have a dinky little Flip camera. Sigh. But the song is "Babe" by Evenings. Very cool little band/guy; he's not even on iTunes yet so if you have a Facebook like his page. We love you, Nathan.
The dress I'm wearing in the video is from here. And though it looks like when I'm mixing things I am not wearing a shirt, I promise I was wearing a sports bra type tank top thing. I had been running. Stupidly.
On a different note, your life is not complete unless you've seen the below video. That is all.
This is what our cats do all the time... except... it's an OWL.

like a page from a bird book
My outfit today... I was feeling uncreative so I drew from this Teen Vogue shoot. I didn't even bother listing my jewelry because it comes from so many places — the headband and one of the necklaces from Panama, a bracelet from Honduras, the shark-tooth necklace from California/Hawaii (it was my mom's, I have no idea)...
tank top: delia's // shorts: American Eagle // belt: Goodwill // vest: Old Navy

y u no spring already?
... I really want some pretty flowers. Like, now. I'm starved for floral prints, the world oughtn't be starved of flowers. Honestly. February is over. Let's have some springtime now, shall we? I'm afraid the best I can do is some pretty inspo pictures and a couple shots of mentally damaged birds, but it's better than nothing.
This is just a sneak peek of the outfit, mind. It's far too epic to not have a post of its own.
To give Mama Nature credit, snow is melting. It is melting fast. But I'm going to throw a temper tantrum if it rains for one more day — this is getting ridiculous...
I am loving the soft colors of the French Vogue cover right now. They switched editors (gasp) and the new chick snagged Gisele for her first issue. (Crossing my fingers that perhaps I shall either be snagged or be the one doing the snagging...) I like that the text is all very subtle — everyone's gonna read the front of the magazine, folks, no need to make your letters neon. That just makes my eyes hurt. And wow, Gisele looks smashing. Either she's a very gracefully aged 30 or she's gotten some work done... I can't believe she still looks like that after having a kid...

Um, speaking of birds, I got attacked by a chickadee yesterday. Yes, a chickadee. They're vicious, you know. Vicious balls of fluff weighing one third of an ounce (about as much as two quarters). Self defense is not even an option.
You see, yesterday all the birds were giddy because for the first time in days the sun was shining. This made them a little... er... stupid. This goldfinch? I got about eight inches away before it realized I was there, I was bigger than it, and I had a big black thing making threatening clicking sounds. And even then it waited a while before finally flying off to join its (much smarter) mate. Duh, bird. (But who am I to complain, I got lots of photos and the backlight was to die for.)
And then there were the chickadees... Two of them, at one of our three bird feeders. I was just sitting there — again, like a foot and a half away and they couldn't have cared less — taking pictures. No nest in sight, nothing. Then out of nowhere, one of the two flies overhead like it was headed for the tree behind me and wham, it divebombs my head. Now, I don't know if you've ever had a bird attack you, but this thing was literally an inch away from my head and I just didn't know what to do. (Note: this is not my first chickadee attack. It's actually my second. We have vicious chickadees around here, I'm telling you.) Naturally I was stupid and did not get a photo, so you'll just have to take my word for it: I was officially frightened by a bird that weighs as much as two quarters. It was surprising, okay? Having a universally regarded "cute" bird fly at your face out of nowhere is surprising. And I spend a lot of time with birds. It's surprising.
Yeah. I was dominated. By a chickadee! I'll go cry in a corner now, my bravery died somewhere around "vicious balls of fluff".
By the way, I used Google to find out how much chickadees weigh and came across this little tidbit while I was at it:
Moral of the story: don't trust a cute face. It will eat you if it gets the chance.
xoxo.

One of the more unusual behavior traits is something called Batesian mimicry, in which a prey species mimics the appearance or behavior of a predator [...] When threatened in the nesting cavity chickadees may hiss and sway then lunge at the intruder like a snake striking. This will hopefully startle the intruder enough to make it retreat to find easier prey. (via)So that makes me feel a little better. At least there are vicious chickadees worldwide and not just in my backyard. (Read: swamp.)
Moral of the story: don't trust a cute face. It will eat you if it gets the chance.

Blizzard
I was psyched to try out my new camcorder. After a few technical difficulties, I now bring to you...
It happened last night. Howling wind, lots of snow (though not the 18" predicted... sigh). There's something very thrilling about the first big winter storm. It reminds you what it feels like to be alive. (I know, that's very trite. But it's true!)
Random Fact About Olivia #7823: She likes to earn her stuff. I love the little camcorder and it's totally awesome and useful (thanks Santa *ahem*mom&dad*ahem*), but it feels more special to use my camera that I saved for and bought with my own hard cash. My parents always taught me that if I wanted something I had to save for it and earn it. I used to resent that they didn't fork over the big bucks like my friends' parents, but now I'm starting to see their point. It's much more satisfying to earn it yourself. Weird life lesson realized in the middle of a blizzard.
Today I made my mom suit up in her boots and coat and frog-marched her outside for a photoshoot. (Okay, maybe I didn't frog-march her. But I peer-pressured her.)
Teaser: These pics represent the new look coming to HorseFeathers on January 1. *insert evil laughter here*
I've updated the About Me page, by the way. Should you care to check it out.
For some reason all the backyard birds seem to love coming to the feeder in the driving snow. Crazy birds. But I'm not complaining, it gave me a pretty backdrop and rather nice photos. I especially love the cardinal. Noticing a color scheme here? White on red on brown-black on grey. Favorite color scheme ever.
I now leave you, o readers, for I must go eat my dinner. Have a lovely night... er... evening... er... whatever it is when you read this.
THE BLIZZARD.
Beware: Many Captain Obvious moments above. Such as "snow is cold." Sigh.
Also, no chickens were harmed in the making of this video. :)
I really despise iMovie '06. Really. It's a bad program. I apologize for the editing quality of this video.
Note to self: improve home video skills. Eep.

This is quite possibly the best photo of me ever taken. The white in my hair is SNOW, by the way. Not that weird flakey stuff they make shampoo for... what is that called again?

I look so serious... Hmm. But my eyes look kind of wolfish... just thought I'd post some wolfiness. Wow, I really need some coffee. That made little to no sense. I'm sorry.

Can I justify this extreme oddness/comment on pop culture by saying it was very windy?

Photos from the Sunshine State
I was home sick today and drafted this post for you guys. Lucky me...
These photos are actually a matter of pride. Most of them are SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) and thus have no editing. I think they turned out great.
Then we went to a National Park beach. It took us maybe 3-4 hours to walk to the end and back. But the birds... oh, they were AMAZING!
And the shells we found were marvelous.
It was a lovely trip — so warm and sunny! It's grey November back North... *sigh*
Tomorrow night is opening night for our play! Things have been hectic but I hope for the best.

We stayed for a few nights with my great-grandparents in Homasassa Springs. This is from their backyard... sunrise.
