VIDEO // let's have a chat

Here's a quick video in which I explain why skankiness is not my goal... and trust me, it's not for modesty reasons.

If you guys have any questions for me about anythinganythinganything at all, leave a comment and I'll address it in a later video. I feel like filming.

like a page from a bird book

My outfit today... I was feeling uncreative so I drew from this Teen Vogue shoot. I didn't even bother listing my jewelry because it comes from so many places — the headband and one of the necklaces from Panama, a bracelet from Honduras, the shark-tooth necklace from California/Hawaii (it was my mom's, I have no idea)...

tank top: delia's // shorts: American Eagle // belt: Goodwill // vest: Old Navy

Photos...

WHAT IS THIS? I can't find it in any bird books!

It eats flowers...

preening chickadee

not even edited... yay sky

LIFE // gotham part ii

Why does New York City have so many names? There's like fifty of them. Actually, there's 98. Wow. 98 names. How does anyone keep track of this? If someone says "I'm going to the Frog and Toe" I think what's that, a pub?
Anyway.
Whatever you want to call it, I am no longer there. In fact, I am typing this from my nice comfy bed back in boring old Maine.

Sunday's vlog:

So on Saturday, after we saw War Horse (which was THE most amazing play I have ever seen, I highly recommend it if you have a chance to go), we went home and crashed in the hotel — nothing too exciting. The next morning we went out semi-early (I had to take a shower, then realized there was no conditioner. So I used lotion instead. That's why my hair is so... frizzy) and had breakfast at the Hungarian Pastry Shop (yes, I called it the Hungarian CafĂ© in the video, I messed up).

We went to the Palm Sunday service at Saint John the Devine — that is one reallyreallyreally big church, y'all — and then wandered the campuses of Columbia and Barnard. I'm a little bit in love but my hopes aren't towering to get into a college that good. After all that we went to a nice museum exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt, and strolled through Central Park.

In the evening, we went to a very neat read-through of a new musical — very cool — at the Guggenheim and finished up with fantastic Middle Eastern food.

Monday, our final day, was a shopping-and-strolling kind of day. We went to several stores — including *squeal* Anthropologie and this crazy hole-in-the-wall vintage store where you got a discount if you knew what the third (?) full moon of spring is called (find out here), which was totally weird and awesome — and I promptly forgot the name of the store. I was proud to only spend $35 while in the Big Apple: $30 for my Anthro blouse (photos soon!) and $5 for a scarf for my friend at the crazy-amazing vintage store. We also traveled the High Line, which is very neat.

Anyway. Now I'm back in normal vacation mode (read: vegetable on the couch). Sigh.

LIFE // empire state of mind

Yes sir, all you commenters of last post: My destination was New York City! This was the photo behind the words:
source unknown

I haven’t been since I was about six — maybe younger — so I was totally excited. My grandfather and his wife Pam had given me this trip for my birthday back in October, and yesterday we began our journey.

My grandfather picked me up and we drove down to Kennebunk. He’s an architect and one of his clients was contemplating buying a house there, and she wanted his opinion. Well, I know MINE: It was beautiful and old and full of ghosts and I totally want to live there. Of course I entered armed with my camera and my camcorder!

This is the video/vlog from yesterday. After the exciting house experience, we drove down to Boston, where Pam has an apartment.

Bright and early the next day (eating on the road) we left for New York. We went to the Fashion Institute of Technology... and then we're about to go see the play War Horse in Lincoln Center.

My outfit for FIT. I figure that was long as I’m in New York I may as well dress as crazily as possible!
1800s slip as skirt // Delia’s tee // Target espadrilles

So the winner from yesterday is... Danielle. Danielle, you have a choice of two prizes: a 4x6 print of any photo in my Etsy shop, or a month of advertising in my sidebar. Email me and we’ll work it out. :)

The vlog from today. It's a little rough because I was rushing out the door to see War Horse, but that's my day so far. xoxo!

07 March 2011

rain snow rain.

That's what's been happening all day. Rain, snow, rain, snow. The weatherman calls it a "wintery mix". I call it depressing. "Wintery mix" is a far too elegant name, it sounds like dinner party food. This is definitely not a dinner party. The ground is covered with slush — I had to wear boots out to the bus stop today and change into my heels once I got to school. Any evening gown would be history after thirty seconds in this weather. The atmosphere is one of general blah.

So, of course, one must try to make her day a little happier and ignore the fact that it's sleeting outside.

I did this yesterday by making a little vlog. Now, I don't think vlogging is really my thing, but I mentioned a few music videos and such so I thought it would be appropriate. It's only four and a half minutes, I tried to keep it short.

I tried to do this yesterday but YouTube hates me and didn't upload my video. Pout. So I had to do it again today.

Oh, and that really exciting white thing I mentioned yesterday Saturday? That gets revealed in the video. Eeeeek.

PS: the video was taken with the webcam of my incredibly exciting white thing, that's why I only show you the box.

^^^ can you guys see that? ^^^
if you can't try the one below.
the quality is lower but all I see is a black brick for the one above.
wouldn't want that showing up on y'all's screen.
(please note above failed attempt at being Southern.
o readers from the South, please correct me.
teach me how to say "y'all" and I'll teach you how to say "ayuh."
Kidding. I don't say ayuh. Just being a stereotypical Mainah.)

xoxo, lovelies, and I hope you survive the week.
I don't know if I will.
Eh. I have key lime pie. I'll make it through.
Hopefully.

PS: We're steadily approaching 500 followers! Wow. What kind of party do you guys want to have?
