Adventures Overseas

... well, okay, by "overseas" I mean "a 15-minute boat ride", but still. :)

My dearest friend Elránia and I just got back from spending a whopping 50 hours together... eep! But wait. I can explain: First of all, Elránia's birthday party started at 2:00 on Monday. The Cornet Crazie and Elránia's friend Serena were also there, and we had a terribly fun sleep-over including Lord of the Rings spoofs, the beach, and me getting stung by a bee. (Serena and I, as it turns out, have totally identical personalities. No, we didn't kill each other... we threw Hannah into the ocean instead!) I gave Hannah a drawing I did based on a photograph of her... perhaps she'll put up a picture... *wink wink nudge nudge*

So after everyone had left, Elránia and I went up to my place and waited for my dear grandmother to pick us up. This is a woman who at about sixty climbed a crabapple tree and has a large collection of skulls (animal... I think) and stuffed animals — not the fuzzy cuddly kind, either. Yes. That grandmother. Anyway, she lives with her boyfriend/fiancé/dude on a lovely little island said boyfriend/fiancé/dude privately owned called Snow Island. It's pretty small — maybe only 2 miles around — but full of beautiful woods, ocean, and ospreys. We spent the night and had lots of fun.

Naturally, I brought my camera...

Elránia did too, and I believe there will be a post on her blog sometime soon. But for now, here are some incredibly random quotes that came up in our conversation and some photos (the ones of her are obviously by me, and the ones of me obviously by her).

"Plink Famingos... a new breed of awesomeness." - Olive Tree

"I used to pretend that my life was a movie, and I was just acting..." - Elrania

"Fluorescent pink trees. That would be *so* sick-nasty awesome." - Olive Tree

So yes... we went exploring, got soaking while kayaking, ate about a pint of ice cream each (did I mention it was in the upper 90's for pretty much this whole week?), and watched approximately five hours of crime shows.

A final quote, that's kind of a joke between Elránia and I:

"Daaadddddd!" - CSI: Criminal Intent season finale

Have a lovely day, everyone! Keep cool!

  7. I have a Nikon D60.... those pics were with a 55-200mm telephoto lens. I ended up not using my 15-55mm.

  8. That must have been a great 50 hours! :) I have to say, you both look like models. And fluorescent pink trees? Love that idea, keep working on it!

  10. Hey Olive! I just have one quick Q... Do you think you could tell me how I'm doing with photography? You're so good and I only just started, so please could you visit Forever Photography and let me know how I'm doing? Thanks so much! You're so talented!

  12. Akire: I actually *do* model. :) I think Elránia would make a lovely runway model myself.

Swirly Girl: It looks like you're off to a good start! Try some portraiture, some animal photography, some landscape — find your strengths. Also, your colors look a little washed-out... I don't know if you're using a DSLR, but if you are, check your exposure. Finally, your pictures are TINY... you should get a template that has a larger posting area, to showcase your work.

  13. Thanks, Olive! I'll keep all that in mind. :)

  16. Wow! Looks like fun! I totally wish I had an island like that near me!!! For us it was "really" hot... probably the 70's... Considering the usual temperature in the fall/winter/spring, thats pretty hot... But I'm certainly not jealous of the hot weather. I spent about four hours at the pool, and if I was out of it for 10-15 minutes I was "fainting", and so was my friend. Uber fun :) Your pictures are awesome, I wish I had a nice camera, I have a small, silver digital one... Nothing fancy, and the pictures don't turn out to well, but it is fun... I have a really cool unedited picture of a dandelion, where part of it is blurry, and part of it really clear, and it looks totally edited :)

  18. Brightstar:
For you, I'd say to also make your posting area bigger, and to enhance the contrast between your photos; they look a little drab. Try Photoshop or GIMP, or Piknik (sp?) online.
By the way, the birds were pelicans, not herons. :)

  26. Hmm... Upon examining my dinky little black-and-silver digital camera, I have discovered it is a Lumix, and on the top it says DMC-TZ3 but I have no idea what that means... Oh well, the pictures are of pretty good quality :)

  27. I loveeeeee this post and your blog and the whole - what do you call it - template? of your blog!!! It's kind of how I want to "remodel" my blog, but I just don't really know how. And I'm too lazy to learn html. Haha.

Anyway, I really enjoyed viewing your pictures. The way you edit them is how I want my photos to turn out - doesn't exactly work though. xD

    Lovely blog!!
    Erin :)

  28. Haha thanks Olive Tree! And lol okay- I didn't think they were herons, I just couldn't think of anythig else. Hahah!!!

  29. Hannah: Yep, I model professionally. You'll never guess whose music video I just got back from filming! :)

(Unfortunately, I signed an agreement saying I can't tell you until 10PM tonight... so you'll have to wait for tomorrow's post.)

Olive Tree. I've been reading from the start, and I must tell you something. Your posts fill me with happiness, and hope. I feel I'm there as you explain about your day-to-day life, and your pictures have captured my soul. It is because of you that I started taking photographs, and as I read your things on Anecdote it made me long to write as well as you. You are part of the reason I started writing again. Everyday I go to the computer to check your blog, hoping that you posted again. As my fingers play across the keyboard, and my mouse searches for your blog, I'm excited, and I can't wait to see if you've posted. You fill me with such an amazing eagerness to read your posts it almost scares me.

  32. Stunning photos:)

Thanks so much for redesigning my blog, Olive--it's lovely! I know I keep pestering you, but I was wondering...could you perhaps install a customized font for my post titles and sidebar? (like with one of the fonts from the header.)

I'm so sorry to keep bothering you!!:D

  33. Music video? Jealous! Modeling? Jealous! Camera? You guessed it!

Anyways, do you take pictures for a modeling agency, cuz that would be awesome! Can you visit my blog?

Thank you and keep rockin' those shades :D

  34. Wait, Wildflowers-On-The-Mountain reminded me, are you coming back to Anecdote?

  35. Not now, but perhaps a little later.
And no, I don't take the pictures... I just pose and smile. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. That would be fairly easy for me, except my eyes are all squinty when I smile & I don't have your natural beauty!

Can you tell us what brands you model for or will the spy satellites hunt you down? :)
