A New Venture

I've been browsing through some blogs and came across this incredible young lady. I'd been meaning to try some digital coloring for a while, and she gave me the inspirational boost to get going on it (finally)!

So I stayed up wayyy too late sketching out a rough original (lovin' these quasi-Victorian / quasi-medieval dresses). These semi-faceless creatures are my specialty... mainly because I am awful at drawing faces of any sort! Often they will have long ears, spindly legs, antennae, or wings (because I use them mainly as character sketches for my fantasy book). This girl is the most human I've drawn in weeks.

I scanned it in this morning, and cleaned her up in Photoshop...

And started to work! I must say, I am VERY pleased with using Photoshop to color. It's sort of watercolor-y. I am usually awful at shadowing, but it's really easy with layers. Yay!

And here's the final product! Please let me know what you think... even if your opinion is that I should never, ever post something like this again. This is a very rough drawing... I kind of like it that way, though.

  6. Thats so cool! I'm horrible at drawing faces too, so its all good! :)
Its really strange. When I'm thinking about writing, you post about writing, when I was frustrated you posted about frustration, when I was thinking about drawing, you posted about drawing... Am I the only one who finds this insanely weird?!

  8. That's beautiful! I suck at drawing stuff like that.. I mean, sort of anima (I think I spelled that wrong) kind of stuff. I'm good at drawing and I think this post gave me just what I needed to put my photo online and color it!

    You're a great artist ;-D

Yeah, Jade's really encouraged me in my drawing, and now I *cough* believe *cough* I MIGHT do some digital coloring. I don't have a pad, but I was looking at some stuff Jade's done without one, and it's marvelous!
    Again, it's gorgeous!

By the way, I am a writer too and I love the sound of your book. It would be really cool if you posted a snippet of your writing. ;)

  15. Wow. That's really good! Did you use a tablet to do it?? Or did you just use the mouse?

I've tried something like that once(coloring on PS) but it failed miserably.
