Black and White

I never, ever, EVER shoot in black and white.

EVER.

I just love color too much.

Yet I am strangely drawn to photographs with that dreamy, high-contrast, monocolor feel to them. So today I decided to put some of my favorite photographs into black and white. I created a few actions to get this lovely black and white a while ago yet never used them, so today I broke them out... and was stunned by the results!

{This is my entry for the lovely Hannah's photo contest.}

turtle skull on antique books. somewhat disturbing, yet one of my favorite images.

I think I'm in love.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Please vote on both polls to the side...
And give me feedback: Most of the actions used to edit my photos, I've made myself. If I were to sell my Photoshop Action Sets, would you buy them for $5-$10 for a set of 10 or so? I spend a lot of time on them so I think that's a reasonable price, and the product is STUNNING (if I do say so myself). For instance, all these photos were made with my action "Ethereal B&W".

  1. I don't think I'm in love -- I KNOW I'm in love. Beautiful work, Olive Tree. These photos are stunning!

    Love you!

  2. I love color too--big, vibrant, vivid and beautiful. But there's something so powerful about black and white that keeps me coming back and back and back and back...LOVE your photos--and the entry for the photo challenge is lovely!

You want to sell some actions? Me too! I've posted about it several times on my photography blog. I have about four sets and probably about 50 some actions. Let me know what you're going to do--and show us your actions! I love seeing before & after, and seeing how the b&w photos are gorgeous, I'm sure the other actions will be amaaaazing.

    Love ya! ♥

  4. Those are great! I think some pictures look great in black and white. I discovered a long time ago how useful black and white can be on pictures where the color might have come out distorted or if it it's a little fuzzy or blurry. :)

  7. Wonderful! But no, I wouldn't buy them... well, if I had the money I would, but since I don't want to spend $5-$10 dollars because I only have $20. You see what I mean? But I'm sure there'd be a lot people who would.

  9. I know I woudln't buy any sets. I don't have Photoshop (sigh) and I just don't like spending my hard-earned money. But that's a reasonable price. Beautiful photos.

  11. Amazing photos Olive Tree. With your polls on your style of writing I'd would have to say its fantastic. On your other poll with the photo contest I would like to see one but I would also like to keep seeing your normal posts about your every day-to-day life. Thats what made me keep coming back to your blog. :D

  14. Do I like them? I *love* them. *sigh of delight* B&W is my favorite combination--other than color boost.

  17. These are great!

I would buy them if they were compatible with PSP, but I don't think they would be. I would definitely once I get photoshop though.
