y u no spring already?

... I really want some pretty flowers. Like, now. I'm starved for floral prints, the world oughtn't be starved of flowers. Honestly. February is over. Let's have some springtime now, shall we? I'm afraid the best I can do is some pretty inspo pictures and a couple shots of mentally damaged birds, but it's better than nothing.

This is just a sneak peek of the outfit, mind. It's far too epic to not have a post of its own.
To give Mama Nature credit, snow is melting. It is melting fast. But I'm going to throw a temper tantrum if it rains for one more day — this is getting ridiculous...

all pictures via weheartit. arranged by moi.

I am loving the soft colors of the French Vogue cover right now. They switched editors (gasp) and the new chick snagged Gisele for her first issue. (Crossing my fingers that perhaps I shall either be snagged or be the one doing the snagging...) I like that the text is all very subtle — everyone's gonna read the front of the magazine, folks, no need to make your letters neon. That just makes my eyes hurt. And wow, Gisele looks smashing. Either  she's a very gracefully aged 30 or she's gotten some work done... I can't believe she still looks like that after having a kid...

source unknown. anyone know who made this? it's beautiful. credit to
Katie Daisy and thanks to Katie non-Daisy for letting me know!

Um, speaking of birds, I got attacked by a chickadee yesterday. Yes, a chickadee. They're vicious, you know. Vicious balls of fluff weighing one third of an ounce (about as much as two quarters). Self defense is not even an option.

You see, yesterday all the birds were giddy because for the first time in days the sun was shining. This made them a little... er... stupid. This goldfinch? I got about eight inches away before it realized I was there, I was bigger than it, and I had a big black thing making threatening clicking sounds. And even then it waited a while before finally flying off to join its (much smarter) mate. Duh, bird. (But who am I to complain, I got lots of photos and the backlight was to die for.)
sunlight haze = love
silhouette also = love

And then there were the chickadees... Two of them, at one of our three bird feeders. I was just sitting there — again, like a foot and a half away and they couldn't have cared less — taking pictures. No nest in sight, nothing. Then out of nowhere, one of the two flies overhead like it was headed for the tree behind me and wham, it divebombs my head. Now, I don't know if you've ever had a bird attack you, but this thing was literally an inch away from my head and I just didn't know what to do. (Note: this is not my first chickadee attack. It's actually my second. We have vicious chickadees around here, I'm telling you.) Naturally I was stupid and did not get a photo, so you'll just have to take my word for it: I was officially frightened by a bird that weighs as much as two quarters. It was surprising, okay? Having a universally regarded "cute" bird fly at your face out of nowhere is surprising. And I spend a lot of time with birds. It's surprising.

Yeah. I was dominated. By a chickadee! I'll go cry in a corner now, my bravery died somewhere around "vicious balls of fluff".

By the way, I used Google to find out how much chickadees weigh and came across this little tidbit while I was at it:
One of the more unusual behavior traits is something called Batesian mimicry, in which a prey species mimics the appearance or behavior of a predator [...] When threatened in the nesting cavity chickadees may hiss and sway then lunge at the intruder like a snake striking. This will hopefully startle the intruder enough to make it retreat to find easier prey. (via)
So that makes me feel a little better. At least there are vicious chickadees worldwide and not just in my backyard. (Read: swamp.)

Moral of the story: don't trust a cute face. It will eat you if it gets the chance.

xoxo.

  1. We are FINALLY getting beautiful weather where I live! Today's high is 70 degrees and it feels wonderful out.

Just hang in there! Your pretty weather will come soon. We have had rainy weather for about a week where I live and I was so ready to throw a temper tantrum.

All of this to say, the pretty weather will come to you soon! :)

  3. Hmm. It's starting to be spring here, but it's not there all the way yet. I'm loving the flowers, too. :) And that collage is beautiful!

Can't wait to see the outfit in its entirety. Looks pretty neat so far. :)

  7. Aww I love chickadees- they're one of my favorite birds! Sometimes I go hiking, put some birdseed on my hand, and stay very still until a chickadee lands on my hand. I've never gotten attacked by them- that's crazy that the weather would make them do that!

  10. Hahahaha, I just read the part about the chickadees thoroughly and had a good laugh! When my brother was six years old, we had a Robin's nest in one of our trees. My parents told him many times, "DO NOT look at the Robin's nest unless we are out there with you." Guess what? He went out there, disturbed their nest, and about four of them let out a large amount of *ahem* droppings on his head.

    Pretty picture, huh? ;)

  16. Great pictures! I've had bats swoop down at my head, but never birds lol. I wish I could have seen that. I promise I'm not giggling. Heehee. :D Great story.

  17. Seriously Olivia, you're a million times bigger than a bird! lol

I liked the pictures, but the magazine picture wasn't very modest.

I want spring to come fast too!

  18. hahahahahaha. sorry, it's not funny, but...it kinda is! however, i think my attack from a bat while i was swimming trumps your chickadee. ;)

  19. Oh my, oh my! That is quite funny to say the truth. I had a friend who climbed up in a bush to see a nest and got divebombed by a bird. Quite funny even if he wasn't laughing. haha.
Beautiful shots as always Olivia. :D
