Pemaquid is a lovely little town where my father spent his summers growing up. As it turns out, his whole side of the family was there for the 4th of July, so there were many cousins running around. I went and wandered about, visiting the old fort (shrouded by fog) from the early settlers in the 1700s...

... and the accompanying graveyard. I must have spent about an hour in there. The dates of death range from the 1700s to the 1930s, and there are an alarming amount of graves that read simply "lost at sea". Equally alarming are the squadrons of tiny graves which, like poor Normie down there, hold the bodies of small children.

The next morning, the fog had cleared up, the tide was down and the critters came out.

ps: I just discovered a lovely site called ideeli that's having a huge sale right now. Basically it's all this designer stuff — clothes, housewares, you name it — for a fraction of the cost. If you join using this link and buy something, I get credit on my account — which would be lovely because I'm flat-out broke right now.
While we're on the subject, anyone want to buy a blog design? *smiles weakly* Help the poor... aka me?

pps: like the new URL? www.ofhorsefeathers.com is officially up and running. I'd parked the URL ages ago but never set it up. What do you think? I'm going to fix it so you don't have to type in www, don't worry. (right now that just brings you to the parked page) All set :)

  1. Lovely photos, again! :) Pemaquid looks amazing.

  2. lovely pictures! [like always] I wish I wasn't broke right now as well, I would tots buy something off ideeli. it looks amazing...

    oh mother....look what website i found!! $$

  3. Those gravestones are in great shape! So many stories there that we will never know....

Good luck making money. I need to do that myself.

  4. Love the photos {once again}! Wow - that island is pa-retty old. I mean, the 1700s? Wow! I would definitely be interested in walking around in the graveyard and looking at the date of the people (though it'd be a little creepy). ^_^

P.S. We're still all incredibly anxious about the video. *hint hint*

  5. Wow, lovely pictures! The island looks beautiful!!

  6. I love ideeli! I got my graduation dress form there. And it's ALWAYS having a big sale, no matter what!

  7. Also, how do you find the "Template" button you mentioned a few posts ago? I can't find it... *panics*

  8. Wow. All those old graves. I remember last year on holiday by the seaside my family and I went to a remote part of the beach with a lot of rock pools which turned out to be a grave yard. Ugh! Creepy.

  9. I'm so glad you're back! Looks like your trip was great! As usual, your pictures are great! Love it! :)

  10. My goodness, your photos are perfect! The fog looming over the castle is just beautiful. The gravestones are so fascinating. I would love to go to England one day! All my ancestors come from England!

  11. Beautiful photos! I especially love the one of the little water snail :)

  12. Hey Olivia! Stumbled across your blog and lovin' it! Your photos are absolutely awesome and pretty =D

  13. Have you seen the movie "Charlie St. Cloud"? Because your blog totally looks like that movie right now... the gravestones, the ramshackle building in the woods... the sailing...

    Beautiful pictures. :)

  14. Amazing pictures, Olivia! I love them as usual.

Don't forget to show us the ghost video! X)
