FASHION // go-go girl

dress: bridesmaid's dress from my parents' wedding, via my godmother // boots: 1960s, via my grandmother // silver bangles: via my grandmother

Like my ridiculous pose? I don't know how to look like Twiggy. I just don't.

I'm pretty pumped that Mad Men is making the 60s all the rage. I have some pretty intense 60s stuff. And it sort of works with my intense 90s stuff. Booyah.

My grandmother got married in a dress very similar to this one. It's in our basement (where else?) and someday I'll show it to you. It's frickin adorable. And short.

These poor boots have been worn by three generations of my mother's family by now. Do they count as go-go boots? I want them to count as go-go boots. Because go-go boots are fantastic.

We had our first onstage rehearsal for Grease today... I'd lost my voice (cold, flu, whatever it is) and couldn't speak above a whisper, so I drank one of those giant XXX Vitamin Waters — you know, the ones with enough in them to sate a herd of elephants? That helped.

Also, that's why there's a pen in my hair. I don't know if you can see it in the photo... but this is how I've been wearing my hair for the past week or so. Otherwise I have a tendency to lose my pencils, because they're all about as long as my pinky finger.

Plus, I got a Facebook on Wednesday (finally). So for those who asked about it forever and a day ago, there is now an of horsefeathers page.

Oh, and my birthday's in like a week and a half. Anybody know any good movies playing in theaters right now? Dream House looks good. I love horror films...

PS: Important note... the weeklygiveaway is officially discontinued. It's way too much stress for me to be organizing it all the time, on top of regular posts and drama and school and the gazillion clubs I've joined this year. Last week's winner was #113, Marina... go ahead and email me!
Don't worry, there will still be random huge giveaways. It's almost more fun that way. Right? Righhhtt?

  17. I didn't get to comment on your last post, and I just wanted to say I'm sorry that you got all those ugly comments from those people. They should not have said that. They were pushing you to do this and not do that and to do this and so on....You weren't doing anything wrong! Those Christians said things that weren't Christian like. i'm sorry u had to put up with things they said. I'm sorry if I ever judged you in a bad way too. You are who you are and that's all that matters! You are what you are and that's all that matters. It's your life. U have a great blog. :)
p.s love the dress and those boots are gorgeous!

  21. That's one awesome dress. I saw the second picture and was like, "Wow, that's really pretty." Then I saw the pen and thought, "What the heck?" LOL.

  22. i loooove that dress. i am so jealous. and that's funny: i've been wearing a pencil in my hair for the past two weeks for some unknown reason.
my birthday's tomorrow...party it up! lol

  23. They're close to go-go's. Maybe if they weren't laced? Well who cares what they are, I'm jealous of them!

Use white pencil under your eye and use liquid eyeliner to draw on lashes if you want to look like Twiggy. It's super-fun to do! I did it for Halloween, only I glued on lashes instead of drawing them, and it was to look like Lady Gaga-in-the-bathtub from the Bad Romance video.

  26. Your dress is super duper cute!!! I would totally wear it!! :) The length of your hair is the length I'm going for, too. My hair is like three, four inches past my shoulders.... its taking FOREVER!!! Gahh. Anyhoo, I'm not a big fan of the boots, but really love the pen-in-the-air look, and love your pose. lol

    Love,
    Manda

  28. Wow, those boots are super-awesome. I don't know if they qualify as "go-go" or not, but they're great so it doesn't matter. :)

Totally loving the pencil hairdo as well. Who needs expensive hair stuff when there are pencils around?

  31. I so need those boots! A lady pastor that I knew awhile back wore go-go boots. And really short mini skirts. Haha. :)

  32. @ Icefox: I actually did do the white line, with a thin black one underneath, and the whole line-in-crease deal. Not the eyelashes — I don't look good with round eyes — but I tried!

  33. Ohmygosh! You look gorgeous (:
I totally know what you mean, I'm involved in sooo much stuff at school, I'm sooo behind in blogging! I wish they made blogging as part of my technology class, that way I'd have more time for it! Haha
    Love ya, dear (:

  34. I <3 this outfit! And in regards to the last post ( which I didn't get to comment on) I love the outfit , I love all your outfits they inspire me, always. I believe movies are made for inspiration and stimulation of imagination. So if you got an inspired idea from a film even if I'm not into those kinda ones. That is all cool with me. Its your blog so post what you want. I may not agree with some of you Christian beliefs but I come from a family where we're all Christians but we all have slightly different personal beliefs. I don't judge people by their blogs. I may never meet them! I just wanted to say that I'm still gonna follow your blog. If we didn't do this of read that because of a couple of tiny things , life would be exceedingly dull! Be yourself always that's the Olivia we all love.

  35. Olivia I have a Question. Are you the one who is making those Anonymous comments on my blog? because if you are I really would like you to stop, I don't mind you saying something, but swearing is something I don't allow on my blog.

  36. Hey Olivia! I'm sorry I haven't commented in a while, life is insane at the moment. Anways, I LOVE those boots. I've gotten myself a similar pair a few weeks ago, and I'm obsessed with them. :) As a blogger, being open and honest on a blog is very important to me, and not conforming to the "cookie-cutter" blogger mold is also very important. I just wanted to say I'm really proud of you for being so open on your blog and doing what YOU feel is right.

    Love,
    Lauren [www.thrive-lauren.blogspot.com]

P.S...not sure if you've seen the movie Mean Girls (It's my number one obsession ever), but when I first saw the title of this post, I thought of the quote "Four for you, Glen Coco! You go Glen Coco!" Haha, I know that's insanely random, I just wanted to point that out. :)

  37. @Katie: No, I've never even been to your blog. That's insulting that you think I'd do that.

  39. Olivia, I've got to say that I'm glad you stood up for your beliefs, even though I don't agree with everything you say. I have always admired people who defended their beliefs against criticism, even if I do not share those beliefs. Bravo!

P.S. Love the outfit! And the pen in the hair is quite fun!

  40. I'm sorry if I insulted you Olivia.
I just thought that you might have saw something on my blog that you didn't like.
I'm sorry to have hurt your feelings in anyway.
I was just trying to find out who it was, and since we had just had that argument on your blog, I thought maybe you visited mine, and like I said you saw something that you didn't like. But Since you said you didn't I apologize
