Pool Party

Hello friends!

My dear friend Milo's Lane recently had her birthday party, which consisted of a day at the pool (and trampoline) and then a lovely camp-out, complete with chick flicks projected on the wall of the tent and s'mores. Anyway, she recently got the Nikon D5000 and I was eager to play with it, so she graciously allowed me to be the designated photographer of the event.

Needless to say, I had lots of fun...

As a side note: the D5000 is basically a D60 with moderate-quality video. If you're looking to buy a DSLR and are considering it, here's my 2¢:
* If you want a fun "toy" camera — not for professional use — get the D5000 and go nuts. It's totally fun.
* If you hope to pursue professional photography (like yours truly) but are just starting out, get the D60. It's simple, takes amazing pictures, and isn't too expensive, so you can always get a new body for your lenses should you need it. Remember this important fact: bodies are temporary, lenses are your real treasure. I only have two — a wide-angle and a telephoto — and definitely want more!

  5. Thanks everyone!

Brightstar, congrats on your new camera. It's a fun one. :)
Your camera should have come with a black cord. One end of the cord will fit into the USB port on your computer (if you don't know what that is just google it) and the other will fit into one of three openings on your camera's body, covered by a small door. (Read your owner's manual.) Simply plug the cord into the camera and the computer.
If you have a Mac, either iPhoto or Image Capture will pop up and allow you download the pictures. I'm not 100% sure what happens on a PC but I'm guessing you can figure it out.

  10. Actually Eskän, the D5000's picture quality is a little bit less than the D60's. So really my camera takes slightly better-quality pictures. Photoshop made those shots pop. :)

  14. Looks great!! I'm not a *big* fan of just swimming for fun, but I think it'd be cool (if you had a pool) to swim every morning for excerise. Call me crazy, but I thought it'd be fun. :) And that just shows how weird I am.

    Love,
