Thinking.

Today I attended the memorial service for Dodge Morgan.

It was so sad, even though memorials are supposed to be happy. They never are.

And I started thinking on the long car ride home.

What am I doing with my life?

Am I making peoples' lives better worth living by my own existence?
Am I changing the world?
Am I a good person?

I just don't know, and that scares me more than a little.

So I must ask you, dearest readers, to leave a small comment...
       D o e s   H o r s e F e  a t h e r s   e n r i c h   y o u r   l i f e   i n   a n y   w a y ,   h o w e v e r   m i n i s c u l e ?
Even if I've just made you smile on a bad day. Even if you just decided to pick up a camera because of a pretty picture. Even if the blog just inspired you, even a little bit.

Because more than anything, I am terrified of not being worth anything, not being able to make peoples' lives better, not making a difference.

I don't want to be scared.

Excuse me, I'm going to make a mug of tea and say a few prayers now.

Just to fill up the emptiness.

  1. Olive Tree, you have inspired many other bloggers, and I have witnessed some. You have made people want to become a photographer because of you. Again, I have witnessed it. And of course, you have inspired many bloggers because just look at your followers! They love what you do. If they didn't, now would they be following?

  5. You have not inspired me, but enlightened me with the beauty in every post, every picture. I love you writing style and photographs. Because of your lovely photos, I started taking photos. Those photos got me into a photography class. Because of me getting into that class, I sold a few photos, donated the money to my local hospital. Don't doubt yourself. You inspire me to my fullest.

  8. Olive: you bring a smile on a bad day. Your a wind of inspiration on a rainy one and your life shouts "let's go!". Many of us would have never thought to see things in the way that you do but now so many people have been opened up to a whole new world of art; whether it be photography or poetry or maybe even seeing the world through a new lense. And for me? You've certainly opened me to a world I thought did not exist. A world where you can find items of eternal beauty in the dampness of gray fog of everyday life. Our world.
You are an amazing artist, photography, designer and friend: and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Thanks for all the great times and inspirations. -Eskän

  9. I've been meaning to say this for a while. Your blog is amazing. You have inspired me so very much. You are amazing, even though I don't know you, I actually talk about you a lot to my mom saying "Hey mom, look at what this girl Olivia did!" or "Mom, this girl is amazing, she has her own blog which has A WHOLE BUNCH of followers, an amazing writer, author, has an amazing etsy, is an awesome photographer, great at graphic design..." etc, etc. You have truely inspired me. You make me want to get off my butt and do things, be creative. :)

  13. :) You have inspired me in many ways, Olive Tree. You have taught me to think about things in a different perspective. You have taught me that there is more than one way to take pphotography. I AM NOT JUST SAYING THIS. Even though I don't know you in real life, it is a pleasure reading your posts and photography. Please don't be afraid. :)

  14. Oh, Olive... your blog makes me smile on bad days, inspires me, and let me tell you: you're one of the main reasons why I took up photography and why I'm still inspired to continue.
    Remember that.

  16. Yes, sweet friend. Horsefeathers does. You do. I've been feeling this way lately as well, and actually, have had a post sitting in my archives for a few weeks about this, just waiting. I'll pray for you, Liv!

  17. You inspire SO many people! When I wasnt feeling well, I saw that video of you and your friend dancing to those songs, and that made my day. You seem to have so much to offer to many people! So keep posting!

  18. Olivia, you ARE worth something, as is your blog. I know many people have been inspired by your photography as have I. Keep on photographing and writing for the Lord and following Him, and your life will be filled with more than you can imagine. I understand how you feel. But I think we're each worth more than we realize, and so are you. Love you!:)

p.s. Pray. That and digging into God's Word is the best possible thing you can do. :D

  19. Dearest Olive Tree,
You have inspired me in so many ways through this little 'bit of heaven'. Your sweet, fun-loving spirit is a joy to see through your photography and poetic musings. I have smiled and been inspired more times than I can tell you by the beauty you share so freely with us. Thank you!

Honestly, these are major questions that I've personally been dealing with the last few weeks - the only place I have found comfort and purpose from it is in prayers and the Bible (...and more than one cup of hot chocolate!). (the Psalms are the best... it's kinda comforting to know that David and the other songwriters went through the same things, and wrote about it for us!)

I'm praying that somehow, someway, Jesus will work through me to make a difference in other people's lives, that my existence will not have been for nothing, but that I will bless others with my life.

I'll be praying for you as we walk this road (sort of) together!

Thank you for the sprinkles of stardust that your blog inspires me with. :)
    Love you!

  20. Oh, Olive Tree. Whenever I see a new post of yours in my dashboard, I race to it before anyone else's. Just today, I went on a ride to take photos, because of you. In other words, you inspire me greatly.
To me, Olive Tree, you're everything I want to be. I know that sounds very cheesy, but I mean, you're a model, you're a professional photographer, you've published a book, you've got a ton of knowledge of html, you've been in a music video with Taylor Swift, and you're popular in school.
    You're inspiring.

    Lots of love,
    Guin

  22. Of course you're worth something! Heck you have a book out that I'm sure is making a bunch of people happy. :) And your blog has made me smile and laugh out loud a million times. :) Don't be scared.

  23. Olivia, I think we all worry about this at your age...not to dismiss it. In answer to your questions, YES you do improve people's lives. Ask Barbara, Lu and Tor for starters. Your attitude to life and wisdom beyond your years is also very inspiring to me...not to mention your wonderful photography. I squeal with delight when I see your work!

One of my best bits of advice is to sit back and enjoy the roller coaster a little :)

  24. Olive Tree, if you're consumed with Christ, your life and your photography/writing will inspire others. Because all that is not of Christ is temporary, and it is only the truth and love of God that enriches a life. A set apart girl of God is one whom I am inspired by. I am glad you are praying to fill up the emptiness. It's what we are designed to do.

    Much love and many blessings,
    Annie

  25. I think your photography inspires me. I always look forward to your posts, they are most of the time interesting. Honestly.

God will listen to you! Keep praying!

PS: Why would you have so many followers if you didn't inspire them?

  26. Whenever I see you posted on my dashboard, I save it for last because your posts are always a special treat :)

Just remember that NO ONE is a good person. Only through Jesus can we go to heaven and all that. It doesn't matter how good you are - HE LOVES YOU with an amazing love!

    Look up Romans 8:39 :)
